Buy Cruzado Cigars
Cruzado
is a cigar line that was created by Dion Giolito, the creater of
Illusione Cigars. Unlike Illusione, the Cruzado line is not as
strong or full flavored. Cruzado is medium bodied and the wrapper of
the Cruzado cigar line falls between a cafe clara and a cafe rosado
shade. The wrapper is a Nicaraguan Criollo with Nicaraguan binder
and Nicaraguan and Honduran filler. Dion's new line has comples
spices with a body of leather, earth and a creaminess. The Cruzado
line comes in 6 sizes: the Dantes, which is a 5x48 size, the
Avalitos, a 4x46 size, the Marios, a 7x47 size, the Marelas, a 6
1/4x52 Perfecto, the Elitas, a 6x44 size, and the Domenicos, a 5
5/8x46 size. The overall taste of the Cruzado is uniquely Nicaraguan
with strong Cuban influences. The Cruzado line was originally going
to be made by the maker of the Joya de Nicaragua in the Tobacos
Puros de Nicaragua S.A. Factory in Esteli, but because of capacity
issues has been moved to the Raices Cubanas Factory in Honduras
where Dion's Illusione brand is made.
Dion Giolito, who also created the Illusione line started his cigar
career working at The Tinder Box part time and it quickly became a
full time job. After 12 years working at Tinderbox, he decided to go
on his own. Dion got a small business loan and opened a store on a
shoestring budget. He soon decided to bring in a cigar from cigar
maker Pete Johnson that he had bought from Tabacalera Tropical to
liquidate and make some money on. When Dion's supplies dwindled he
wanted to purchase more but the minimum purchase was 50 boxes and he
was not willing to commit to that amount, so he decided to do it on
his own. He made his own private label cigar and called it “88”.
After about 6 months of positive comments Dion decided to meet with
Pete and possibly convert it to a national brand. Pete introduced
Dion to Paul Palmer while on a trip to Miami who was the creator of
these great cigars.
