Fuente
cigar are some of the most sought after cigars in the world. Fuente
has one of the most sought after cigars on the market today, the
OpusX, which is made at the world famous Chateau de
la Fuente factory in the Dominican Republic. The Hemingway and Don
Carlos lines are also very popular cigars with their complexity and
great taste. Carlos Fuente Jr. is the fourth generation of his
family in the tobacco business and has helped Fuente cigars become
the most popular cigar made in the Dominican Republic.
The Fuente OpusX is perhaps the rarest and highest
rated cigars in the world. It has a world-renowned reputation for
quality and class. The OpusX is not only one of the highest rated
cigars in the world, it is also one of the hardest, if not the
hardest cigar to find anywhere. The OpusX is a potent blend that
blows out the senses. The Fuente Family releases the OpusX four
times a year in very limited quantities. So what makes the OpusX so
rare? Before 1990, it was impossible to grow a consistent wrapper in
the Dominican Republic. The Dominican Republic is well known for its
popular binder and fillers, but due to the topography and the wind
the wrapper was impossible to grow. Carlos Fuente Jr. set out to
create a quality wrapper for the first time in the Dominican
Republic. Using cheesecloths to protect the tobacco from the
elements, the first successful crop was created in 1992. The Fuente
OpusX was the first Dominican Puro on the market, meaning that the
wrapper, binder, and filler all come for the Dominican Republic.
Carlos Fuente Jr. succeeded in creating a masterpiece. The OpusX
wrapper is matched with unparalleled vintage tobaccos for a
super-premium cigar that is truly a work of art.
The Gran Reserva line comes in a variety of sizes and
wrappers. The cedar wrapped line comes with a Connecticut wrapper
and Dominican binder and fillers. It is a smooth and mild cigar that
remains very popular. The Cameroon sizes have an african wrapper on
Dominican binder and fillers. This wrapper is spicier with a more
flavorful aroma. The Fuente Gran Reserva line also come in a sweet
and dark maduro wrapper and has a robust flavor.
In addition to the Connecticut and Cameroon wrappers, Fuente added an
Ecuadorian Sun Grown wrapper to the Gran Reserve line
to create a full bodied cigar. Adding the sun grown wrapper creates
a much more rich body and flavor. The Gran Reserve line has an
exclusive size, the Cuban Belicoso, which is one of the more popular
and hard to find cigars that Fuente sells.
The Hemingway series was the first limited edition
addition the Fuente Family introduced. Named after Ernest Hemingway,
the Hemingway line started in three sizes: Short Story, Classic, and
Signature. All three Hemingway sizes are perfectos and have
Dominican binder and filler with a Cameroon wrapper. The strength of
the line is medium to full bodied with rich earthy flavors and a
spicy finish. There are also subtle wood aromas that are an
underlying flavor on the palate.
To honor Carlos Fuente Sr., the Fuente family released the
Don Carlos line. It has an aged Cameroon wrapper and
Dominican binder and filler. This is a commemorative line that to
this day, by his own recognition, Don Carlos considers his greatest
accomplishment.
The Fuente Anejo line is one of the world's rarest
cigars and features a dark maduro wrapper that is aged in cognac
barrels. After the successful launch of their OpusX cigar, a new
idea was born. The Anejo uses the same Dominican binder and filler
as the Opus, but adds a five year old Connecticut maduro wrapper
aged in a cognac barrel. The unique aging process leaves a distinct
finish on the palate. The Anejo line typically only comes out twice
a year at Father's Day and Christmas and is one of the hardest
cigars to find. There are several different sizes for the this
cigar, but by far the most popular is the No. 77 or Shark as it's
commonly referred to. It was the first torpedo shaped cigar ever
rolled so it progresses from a rounded parejo shape to a square
press. This is the rarest size of the Anejo line.
The God of Fire line from Fuente is a very limited
production line made in the Dominican Republic. The God of Fire is a
joint effort between the Fuente Family and the top accessory maker
Prometheus. In an effort to out do each other, Carlos and Carlito
Fuente set out to make the best cigar they could tailoring every
aspect of cigar to suit their respective taste. These two blends are
released in such small quantities they are rarely available for
sale. They are received in special allocations only a few times a
year but are know to be some of best tasting, ultra premium cigars
available today.
